This is the fragrance that made me believe in "maceration".
I tested Amber Oud Ruby at a mall kiosk and was very impressed by its strength and longevity on the tester strip. I did not pull the trigger at that time but couldn't stop thinking about the scent. So I ended up purchasing the largest bottle from fragrancex for a great price. At first I was extremely disappointed as the juice was very weak and did not smell nearly as good as I remembered. It was so weak that I actually suspected it might be counterfeit. Some online reviews gave similar opinions but suggested letting it mature or macerate over several weeks. Well, fast forward 3 months and this is completely different juice!! It projects and lasts like a beast (no anosmia) and smells exactly like I remember from the mall. I'm now a believer in the whole "maceration" myth.

Elusive scent but I like it.
This is an elusive and confusing fragrance, but overall I love the scent profile. At first it seemed really weak and the bitter almond dominated the opening. Within a week the scent seemed a lot stronger and smoother overall, with the almond taking a backseat to the sweet and woody amber you expect from this DNA. It became very well balanced and wonderful. But then a week later I could barely smell it again. I understand that this DNA is notorious for causing anosmia, and many report this brand needing over month of "maceration/maturation" to develop. So I decided to put it away for a while. It is very hard to tell whether this fragrance truly has performance issues or it's just the nature of the DNA playing with my nose. I don't think I received a fake because despite its weakness it still smells correct and well composed. Endless other reviews and commentary seem to share this confusion. Hopefully time will tell for me.

Excellent scent.
I finally got a chance to put my nose on this scent and I must say that I'm pretty impressed. If you are not willing to purchase the actual Baccarat Rouge 540, then you definitely can't go wrong with this one here. I believe one will garner compliments just the same. Plus you're getting a similar smell for the fraction of the cost. It'll practically be like getting it for free compared to what Baccarat would cost you.
